PNG Hekari FC opened their Challengers Group campaign with a 3–1 defeat to Vanuatu United FC at Eden Park. Raymond Diho put Vanuatu ahead before Ati Kepo responded with a low finish from a tight angle.
The sides were level at half-time, but two second-half goals from Alex Saniel decided the contest. His strikes in the 75th and 87th minutes gave Vanuatu the points and left Hekari needing a response in their remaining group matches.
