About the Club
The most decorated football club in Papua New Guinea, and the country's standard-bearer across Oceania.
PNG Hekari Football Club plays out of the PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby. The club was formed in 2003 and entered the capital’s second tier, then won the very first national championship in 2006 and did not let go for the better part of a decade.
Nine national league titles followed, including eight in a row. In 2010 the club beat Waitakere United over two legs to win the OFC Champions League — no club from the Pacific Islands had managed it before — and went on to represent Oceania at the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi. Both were firsts for Papua New Guinea.
In 2025 the club took on a new identity as PNG Hekari FC on admission to the OFC Professional League, Oceania’s first fully professional competition. The original Hekari United now operates as a feeder club, developing grassroots players and supporting the pathway into the elite side.
